Meet Some Altegra Health Team MembersCassandra Palacios, Community Link Manager
As Community Link Manager, Cassandra (Cassy) Palacios leads Altegra Health’s Miami Lakes, Florida-based call center processes designed to help health plan members enroll in community-based programs that save them money and improve their overall health. Having started as a phone agent in 2008, Cassy’s career has expanded at a rapid pace.
Early on, Cassy was tapped to serve as the call center’s first acting Team Lead, which led to her securing the official Team Lead position, followed by a promotion to Supervisor. As the company continued to grow and fuel the demand for additional managers and leaders, Cassy ascended to a newly-created Manager role and is now one of four operations managers at Altegra Health’s Florida headquarters. Altegra Health’s eight regional offices also include call centers in California, Georgia, the Philippines, and Puerto Rico.
Cassy says her career with Altegra Health is challenging and rewarding. “Although I’m less hand’s on with individual members now, I love learning about the business and back end of how we serve members and their health plans,” she says. “We’re all working toward the same goals and building a culture that makes every call beneficial.”
In her role as one of Altegra Health’s most senior information technology executives, Angela Hacksel-Newmark oversees enterprise-wide strategic planning for the technology team. As Angela explains it, “I work with the organization’s senior leaders to plan the direction of technology, and ensure that what we want to have accomplished from a technology perspective happens.”
Angela’s rise to tech team leadership in a male-dominated IT field began in 2003 when she began working at Freedom Disability, a subsidiary of Altegra Health legacy company Social Service Coordinators (SCC). “I literally started on the ground floor – on the phones,” she says. “The work was a combination of outbound calls and case management. I assessed members’ initial eligibility and followed them all the way through enrollment.”
Following her early self-described “grunt” assignments, Angela advanced to a Business Analyst position in 2009, a role requiring detailed knowledge of business processes and IT best practices, as well as the ability to effectively manage simultaneous projects. In 2012, she was promoted to Director, IT Strategic Planning, followed in 2014 by a promotion to Sr. Director, IT Strategic Planning, and in 2015 was promoted to Vice President, IT Planning to better reflect the continued expansion of her responsibilities.
Angela credits Altegra Health with championing her career growth and advancement every step of the way. “The company has been totally supportive, through SCRUM and ITIL® Certification, through two kids, and providing me with the requisite flexibility in my schedule to allow me to earn my MBA in Healthcare Administration,” she says. “Altegra Health is a growing and expanding company that encourages others to excel.”
“Back in 2000, I was working for HIP Health Plan and decided to give it a shot at SSC (Social Service Coordinators is now the Eligibility & Enrollment Division of Altegra Health).
